Mr. Mao is a member of the Communist Party of China and holds a Master of Laws. He is a full-time practicing lawyer with nearly 20 years of experience.
Mr. Mao previously taught at East China University of Political Science and Law for more than a decade, where he also served as Secretary-General of the university’s Commercial Law Research Center. He subsequently taught and conducted research in art law at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, offering courses including Contract Law and Introduction to Art Law. He also taught Civil Procedure at a leading National Judicial Examination training institution.
Mr. Mao has delivered dedicated seminars to companies including Shanghai Vanke, West Shanghai Group, Tospur, Shanghai Electric Group and Shanghai Huayi Group on topics such as corporate legal risk management and the legal characterization of commercial bribery. He has also spoken to Shanghai municipal authorities responsible for culture and tourism, market regulation and related areas.
His articles have appeared in publications including Shanghai Securities News, Oriental Law and Legal Education and Talent Development. He has led or participated in research projects including Preventive Control of Legal Risks in Property Sales, Corporate Risk Governance and An Empirical Study of Energy Conservation Legislation in Shanghai.
Mr. Mao’s academic and professional work focuses on commercial law, copyright law and economic crime. He has particular insight and extensive experience in corporate legal risk management, with an emphasis on diagnosing and mitigating business risks. His practice encompasses corporate and internal governance disputes, contractual disputes, matrimonial and family matters, and the defense of individuals accused of economic crimes.

Defended clients in Shanghai’s first criminal case involving a fraudulent “trap-loan” scheme, a number of the city’s earliest organized-crime cases and multiple fundraising-related criminal cases.

Represented the Chinese shareholder of a Sino-foreign joint venture and advised on internal corporate disputes.
Represented a leading Shanghai-based supply chain company in commercial negotiations concerning cross-border projects in Madagascar, Uganda and other jurisdictions. - Matrimonial, Family and Succession Matters
Represented clients in numerous cross-border matrimonial, family and inheritance matters, including the division and succession of assets located in different jurisdictions.
